Yahweh – The Lord

Yahweh – The Lord

Knowing and Trusting the Lord

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. Psalm 9:10 (NKJV)

  • His name Represents His Character / His nature / His essence.
  • God discloses His name to us, so we can KNOW Who He is, and we can TRUST in Who He is.

Yahweh – The LORD.

  • This name for God is used over 7000  times in the Bible.
  • This is God’s personal name.

Exodus 3:15 (NKJV)

15 Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

YHWH – tetragrammaton (tetra -means 4 and  grammation means letters. So 4 letters) – 4 consonants no vowels.

Take YHWH  and insert the vowels from Adonai, (aoa) between the four consonants and you have Y a H o W a H

The letter Y in Hebrew is the J sound in English. The letter W in Hebrew is the V sound in English. So by adding the vowels from Adonai and inserting them between the four consonants of YHWH, they created the name Jahowah or as we say it Jehovah.

Yahweh or Jehovah is the same name.

Exodus 3:13-14 – “I am”

  1. The LORD has always existed.

The God we worship is eternal – He has NO beginning and He has no end.

Exodus 3:14

Never has then been a time when God did not exist and never will there be a time when God will cease to exist.

Isaiah 40:28

Psalm 90:2

Psalm 41:13

2. He is the LORD over all creation.

a) The LORD created ALL things – Genesis 2:4

b) The LORD created man. – Genesis 2:7, Psalm 139:1–7

c) The LORD controls all things. Psalm 24:1–2,, Colossians 1:16

3. He is the LORD who always fulfills His promises and never changes.

Numbers 23:19

Joshua 21:45

Joshua 23:14

4. He is the LORD who protects and guides us.

Proverbs 18:10

Psalm 23:1–3

Psalm 121:1–2

Let this be your Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

I come before you today with reverence and awe, acknowledging you as the one true God, Yahweh, who created the heavens and the earth. I recognize that your name is holy and that you are deserving of all honor and glory.

As I meditate on your name, Yahweh, I am reminded of your unchanging nature and character. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, and your love and faithfulness never fail. You are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Yahweh, I thank you for the ways you have revealed yourself to me throughout history. You delivered your people from slavery in Egypt and established a covenant with them. You sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem me from sin and death and to reconcile me to yourself.

Lord, I pray that I would know you more deeply and intimately and that I would live in a way that honors your name. Help me to trust in your love and faithfulness, and to walk in obedience to your will.

I also lift up the other believers around the world who are persecuted for their faith in you, Yahweh. I pray that you would strengthen them and sustain them, and that your name would be glorified through their witness.

Finally, I ask that you would be with me as I go about my daily life. Help me to live in a way that reflects your love and grace, and to be a light to those around me. May your name, Yahweh, be praised and glorified now and forevermore.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

    Hi Mike
I am really really learning about Yahweh- the Lord our God. I cant thank you enough for helping us to know Him and all His characters. I am amazed and mostly grateful to be able to have this chance to be able to approach Him in my prayers and devotions more personally. Right now I am studying the life of King David and getting to also understand how much more God loves our praises. Prayers are good but sometimes we forget to give Him more praises and glory, especially with Psalms.
God Bless You Mike for the shepherd you are to us at Barwick. Looking forward to more and mostly grateful it is being posted!!

    Love in Christt Alyce

    • Thank you Alyce, for your encouragement! Yes, we must remember to praise God for Who He is! Indeed, recognizing and praising God for who He is can bring us great joy, peace, and a deeper connection with Him. I love you and I’m blessed to serve you.
